Anglers Rob & Dan Species Casper & Ripsaw Catfish Result Same time, two swims apart

Some sessions produce one great story. This one produced two — at exactly the same time, two swims apart.

Rob Ferrey was working one of the lake’s swims when he hooked into Casper, TopCats’ famous albino catfish — one of the lake’s most recognisable residents, known by name to regular guests and guides alike. Landing Casper is always a session highlight on its own.

But two swims down, at almost exactly the same moment, Dan was fighting something just as memorable: the giant Ripsaw Catfish, another of the lake’s well-known named fish. Word travelled fast between the swims as both anglers realised what was happening simultaneously — two of TopCats’ most famous residents, hooked within minutes of each other by two different anglers.

The coincidence was rare enough that guides and other guests gathered at the lakeside for an impromptu prize-giving on the spot — widely called one of the greatest moments in TopCats’ history by those who were there.
