Guided by Ben Species Mekong Catfish, Siamese Carp Visited 2016 (first visit 2010)

Newcastle United footballer Andy Carroll first fished TopCats back in 2010. Six years later, he returned with fiancée Billi Mucklow for a second visit — and picked up exactly where he left off.

Guided by Ben, Andy spent the session working Heaven’s Point, one of the lake’s more productive swims for big Mekong Catfish and Siamese Carp. It didn’t take long for the first result to arrive: a Mekong Catfish well over 100lb, a solid start to the day by any measure.

The bigger story came later, when a proper Siamese Carp took the bait — the kind of fish that gets talked about back at the bar that evening. Between the two catches, it was a session that more than lived up to the memory of his first visit six years earlier.
